Stacey Williams, GB’s Executive General Manager – Sales and Growth, presented at the Women in Insurance Leadership Summit in Sydney on the 7th of August. An encore to her presentation from another Women in Insurance event held earlier in the year in May.
Stacey was invited to speak at both events on the changing role of women in the insurance industry, the challenges they face and how the industry can continue to improve.
Stacey spoke openly about her experiences in the industry as a woman, a lesbian, and a mother, sharing personal anecdotes as well as advice for young women and LGBT people beginning their careers in insurance.
Delegates at both events were quick to praise Stacey for the honest presentation and provide positive feedback on the insights she shared to conference attendees.
“I really resonated with Stacey as my son also has Autism and this is the first time I have heard anyone talk about it at an Executive level.”
“Extremely brave and courageous interview – thank you for sharing your journey.”
“Loved the honesty and reference to son and what you learn from your kids.”
Gallagher Bassett CEO John McNamara also spoke highly of the presentation.
“I admire Stacey’s courage and candour in openly sharing her experiences in order to help others who may be new to our industry and still finding their place”.
In honour of International Women’s Day (on March 8th) GB dedicated the month of March to celebrating the accomplishments of some the inspiring female leaders we work with here at GB by holding networking events in each of our offices around the country.
We also conducted interviews with nine female leaders from across the business to talk about career progression, their professional highlights and their time spent at GB.
In recognition of their leadership, each of these women were invited to represent GB at the Women in Insurance Leadership Summit and as part of our broader commitment to advancing the role of women in our industry, GB also sponsored a scholarship for an up-and-coming woman in the insurance industry to attend the May event.
Both events were the ultimate opportunity for aspiring, emerging and existing female leaders in the insurance industry. With speakers that shared their experiences and take away leadership strategies, these events empowered ambitious women to succeed in the competitive insurance industry.
Topics at the events included overcoming unconscious bias, the efficacy of diversity quotas, flexible work practices, and insight into resilient leadership.
